How to Choose the Right Wheel Loader to Buy

Article 6 of 14Englishالنسخة العربية

Introduction

Buying a wheel loader is a major capital decision. A common mistake is buying a famous model without matching it to the actual work. The loader that suits a block factory may not suit a quarry, road project, or sand loading yard.

Size class

The CAT 950 / Volvo L120 / XCMG LW500 class is common because it balances bucket size, operating weight, and transportability. CAT 950 GC is around 18.8 tons operating weight with bucket capacities around 2.9–4.4 m³ [S8]. Volvo L120H can range from 2.6 to 9.5 m³ bucket capacity and 19–21.6 tons operating weight depending on configuration [S10].

Technical factors

Focus on bucket size relative to material density. A large bucket with heavy material can overstress axles and transmission. Check dump clearance when loading high trailers. Review operating hours, transmission temperature, hydraulic leaks, pins and bushings, and tire condition.

Brand and after-sales support

In Kuwait and the Gulf, CAT is strong for resale and support, Volvo is known for comfort and productivity, Komatsu is reliable, and XCMG/SDLG/SANY can be economical if parts and service support are available. Do not buy price only; buy uptime.
